Matias Attene Ramos TabsBio Dr Attene Ramos’ main research interest lies in understanding how chemicals can perturb biological systems leading to the onset and progression of different environmental diseases, and how those systems respond to maintain homeostasis. His ultimate goal is to use a mechanistic, disease based approach to improve toxicity testing and chemical hazard characterization using computational, biochemical, and cellular models to reduce animal use in toxicology. Dr. Attene Ramos was a fellow at the NIH Chemical Genomics Center where he worked for the tox21 high throughput initiative under the National Toxicology Program to accelerate the hazard characterization of thousands of compounds present in the environment. He received his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign ExpertiseExpertise: Environmental and Occupational HealthGlobal Environmental HealthRisk Assessment, Management and CommunicationWater, Sanitation, HygieneToxic wasteEducation: Postdoctoral fellow, NIH (NHGRI/NCATS), 2013 PhD, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2008 Teaching: PubH 6015.10 Culminating Experience ResearchResearch: Dr. Attene Ramos’ research projects include: Develop disease focused toxicity testing methods to accelerate hazard characterization of environmental chemicals. Define the role of environmental chemicals in mitochondrial diseases. Understand the potential toxic effects of chemicals generated during water disinfection, and water reuse. Use these information to optimize those processes. Generate predictive models for complex mixture toxicity. Use a combined computational/experimental approach to optimize computational models capable of predicting reactive toxicity. PublicationsPublications: Sakamuru, S, Attene-Ramos, MS, Xia, M.
